RIP Colin Mercer
Not progress related, but we thought we’d add it to the blog as the news hit the ManINsuiT camp pretty hard.
Colin Mercer passed away last month.
To most of you, you never know him by name but by “the old guy in the Battle for the Sky music”. To us we knew him and his wife Maureen and a bit of their life story.
To fill you in on how we met, Colin and his wife were forced out of Zimbabwe by that monster formally known as Robert Mugabe. They took everything from their cars, property and money. Their daughter, living in North Canada at the time, advised they move into an old age home in Cape Town as where she was staying was far too cold for a lifestyle an elderly couple could enjoy.
They were put into a retirement village in Hout Bay, the same as Rob’s gran at the time. This was totally funded by the daughter.
When the concept of the Battle for the Sky music video was set, we needed an old person for the intro scene. After asking Rob’s gran, she insisted we ask Colin as he and Maureen needed the money more than anyone in the retirement village. Colin and Maureen accepted.
We’ll never forget the excitement in Colin’s eyes as we drove around Chapman’s peak from Hout Bay to Kloof Street in Town. He had no transport where they were staying and could not enjoy the beautiful scenery of Cape Town.
Colin led a good life until the end. It’s sad to think that this is one of probably thousands of stories coming out of Zimbabwe. If we were running the UN there would definitely be one less person living today.
We met Maureen last week and gave our condolences and she seems like she is doing alright on her own in Hout Bay.
Apologies for the sad news, but we thought you should know.
Take care,
ManINsuiT

ManBearPig’s control over humanities future was shaken today. As millions in unison “answered the call”. Under command of America’s ex vice president Mr Al Gore. The stage was set. The battle divinely kickoff in god’s hour 07/07/07. Being the number of angel Gabriel. While the masses battled fiercely against ManBearPig. Attacking this malevolent creature on all environmental fronts.
Incredibly something of more substance transpired at Wynberg Sports Club. Im being super serial. MANINSUIT performed to a host of great folk. Kids drank, laughed, smoked, made the metal sign, talked cactus with their mates and got to see some great bands including Crossing Point from Durban. The mood was easy, for a change the security personnel were not dickholes (very rare indeed). The highlight was the general sense that tomorrow didn’t seem to matter to anyone. Check out the photos of the show here.
Respect, Bryan Swanson, our friends, fans, your name………. and Klipdrift
Get your dancing shoes ready for our next show at Klein Libertas on the 23 of July. Some Bon Jovi covers going down.

George Review
Since Mixing is still going down and Design still being decided on we decided to blog the amazing time we had on Thursday night in a town called George and Friday night at a Fallout Sight named Keenan.
ManINsuiT had the privilege of playing the Third Leg of The Battle of the Bands at Stones in George, we where not in contention and Bryan Anthony served as a judge.
Mr. Anthony said he was impressed with all the bands and marked them accordingly, Ascetic emerged as the victors for the night. So well done guys, good luck for the future!
But goddamn can George party hard! From Jaager bomb specials to drink-stealing girlfriends, George can party with the best and at times we felt that we might end up beneath the table with those Georgians standing victorious above us! But alas, we are Spartans and thus we do not go down easy…
ManINsuiT played last and we can honestly say it was one of most fun shows we’ve played in awhile. We’ll definitely be heading back to George on our EP launch tour in November. Thanks to everyone for supporting us and everyone who came to swap stories over drinks afterwards!
We even got to sign a rad new guitarists awesome Ibanez…not gonna lie, we felt pretty bad about tarnishing that masterpiece with our signatures!
In-between playing and watching we met a bunch of cool people and sold a couple of our debut album ‘The Last’ which was pretty cool. We also found out that George is salivating for bands to play their venues, so to bands reading this…go hit that place!
After the show we hit the bar big time and woke up with massive holes in our wallets and the sickening thought of having to drive 5 hours home with massive hangovers!
Thanks to Hannes Carstens for organizing the rad accommodation, awesome food and drink, and a big thanks to everyone that turned out to support the competing bands and us.
Cheers,
ManINsuiT
