Mixing is Muxed and the Master Mustered

After about 5 months of mixing back and forth between Cape Town and Joburg we are damn happy to say it’s over! The final mix is great, every sound we’ve got out of the instruments is exactly what we where aiming for way back when.

It’s so great to listen to the EP as a whole and be able to fully realise thoughts that have been bugging all since ‘Battle for the Sky’ was conceived.

How will it flow? Will this chorus play right after that part?? Does it knock your head against a fucking wall??? One thing MIS excels at is debating!

Couple of things that helped prolong the mixing process were things like doubling choruses, cutting out unnecessary parts (a certain porn-sounding intro comes to mind) and making sure the post-prod Kamil-ness was blending properly with the tracks and were the best we could do with each part.

Chris over the 2 weeks following the final mix got going on the Master, sending stuff down to check levels and flow. When we all agreed on the finished product and held the Master in our hands it was a relieving experience. The record sounds bloody massive, cheers Chris and Mike!

We’ve been pretty slack on updates lately, maybe it has something to do with Brent’s ear reduction operation or Scott’s insteps, either way we apologize for the laziness…

The EP is in the home stretch we’ve received several mixes now, each one surpassing the previous in quality, the songs are sounding epic. Very stoked so far, we should have a final mix beginning of September so you guys can expect to here a track early September then the single release probably around October. EP looks set to be released countrywide roundabout November with a tour to promote the bastard so keep checking back for updates about that.

Design is still being worked on, haven’t really found the look we’re going for yet so thats the front we’re most stuck on now.

Other news, our Jewish friend Robert Goldstein Hope celebrates his birthday today, so if you see him, ignore the fake gold around his neck and buy him a Jagermeister. Happy Birthday Nose!

We’ve been working hard on our live show, getting all the new songs down perfectly along with a a show thats going to blow you guys away, so expect to see the new set October sometime. We’ve also got a couple of shows coming up so check out our MySpace to see where.

Here’s another update regarding the EPs’ progression.

We received a mix for Histories and the Making on Saturday that blew our minds…again! The quality is really astounding and this is only the pre-mix.

Whereas the Battle mix featured heavily triggered drums and was mainly concentrated on finding a water-mark for how triggered we really wanted to go on the kit, the Histories mix showcased a natural drum sound along with more emphasis on the guitar sound.
Both have their positives and negatives, so we’re still deciding right now haha!

We’re on the cusp of finally getting the exact sound we want for the EP, drum-wise, guitar-wise and vocal-wise. The keyboards and production have already been finished and sent off to the guys in Joburg, we can’t wait to see how that will contribute to the overall sound in the mix!

When a final sound has been agreed upon Mike and Chris will hit the tome of a Mix-list, which is the bands thoughts on what the mixing process should achieve.

We are moving closer to a definitive design for the EP and right now we are drafting a cover idea that should tell us if we’re going in the right direction.

The music vid has hit a snag, so we’ve had to postpone all efforts on that front until a later stage, which by no means it is canceled… just delayed

So with this news expect the release of our first single off “Battle for the Sky” in September. We’re deciding between 2 tracks right now, the aforementioned ‘Histories and the Making’, and a slower song called ‘A Principle in Motion (She is Fire)’.

Thanks to you guys for staying with us on this journey, it’s been damn long and fucking testing at times but we are finally seeing the light at the end of the wormhole! We promise when you get your paws on this bastard it will blow your expectations right out the window!

A couple of days back we received the first mix of the re-recorded track Battle for the Sky.

Chris (left) and Mike are busy doing two different mixes. So we basically get to choose what we dig from each of them.

The Battle for the Sky mix was Chris’s and the verdict right now is that it is fucking incredible! The work that these two guys are putting into the tracks is awesome, the track when compared and played on virtually every playback outlet is sounding absolutely 100% pro. volume wise, clarity wise it really exceeded out expectations.

The mix was mostly to figure out a good sound for the kit, Scott dug the sounds so much that only minor things where messed with, such as just putting in a little more bite onto the snare and a getting a bit more of room sound applied to kick. So we’re waiting on Mike to send us the mix for the 3rd track on the EP and, seemingly, the 1st single, video and all - Histories and the Making. It will be cool, to take the best parts from both mixes and combine them get the best sound we can get.

Video wise, we’ve all agreed on the concept now, The Production Team is now writing up a Treatment for the shoot so things are moving forward nicely on that front.
